Tom Cruise joined Glen Powell at a recent screening of the film ‘The Running Man’, and offered candid support for his ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ costar ahead of the film’s theatrical release on November 14. Cruise, 63, shared moments from the event on Instagram, including photos with Powell, 37, and other cast and crew members.
In the pictures, the two are holding matching popcorn boxes with the film’s title prominently displayed on it, showing the camaraderie between the actors.
Cruise highlighted the evening with a caption that read, “Another great night with my friends at the movies! You guys crushed it, congratulations! I laughed, was on the edge of my seat and ate too much popcorn.” With Cruise’s hand on Powell’s shoulder, the actors were seen smiling together, emphasizing their friendly dynamic that began during the filming of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

Powell and Cruise have maintained a professional relationship since their collaboration on the 2022 film, which grossed approximately $1.5 billion worldwide and became the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time in the United States. Their on-screen partnership as Pete Mitchell and Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin has resonated with audiences and industry observers.
In addition to the recent screening, Cruise previously supported Powell at the London premiere of another film, ‘Twisters’ in July 2024. Powell marked the occasion on Instagram, saying, “When your wingman follows you into the storm… (sic),” Powell wrote in the caption, referring to Cruz. This public display of support underlines the mutual respect between the actors.
Following the success of ‘Maverick’, speculation remains active about a possible third installment in the ‘Top Gun’ franchise. Powell addressed the topic while speaking at a panel for Hit Man at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, saying, “It’s all classified.” Powell had previously acknowledged talks about a sequel, saying, “There have definitely been talks, (but) it’s above my pay grade.” “It’s really up to Tom. It’s up to (producer Jerry Bruckheimer). It’s up to the powers that be,” he said, adding, “If they call me back to Miramar, I’ll be there.”
The screening event also included other members of the cast, such as colman domingo, lee pace, and emilia jones, With director Edgar Wright. The group posed for photos holding their popcorn buckets, reflecting the celebratory mood of the evening and the collective nature of the film’s promotion.
