If Kamala Harris wins the US election she has made clear one change to come to the White House: the first president in eight years who actually enjoys beer. Unlike drinkers Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Harris revealed on late-night TV Tuesday that she likes to drink occasionally.
The Democrat broke a can of Miller High Life at the request of host Stephen Colbert.
“I think elections are won on passion because one of the old things is they just want someone they can have a beer with,” he said.
“So, do you want to have a beer with me so I can show people what it’s like?”
The comic revealed that the audience had checked ahead of time what they should be served “because we can’t just serve a drink to the Vice President of the United States.”
As she grabbed a can of Miller High Life—a 4.6 percent beer whose makers say its “easy-drinking flavor epitomizes the American lager category”—Harris revealed that she had recently married her husband, Doug Emhoff. Had drunk alcohol together.

“Well, the last time I drank beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” he said, cracking open the can, “cheers.”
“You go there. It’s cool. From the beautiful city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Colbert said, referring to one of seven swing states that could decide the 2024 presidential election.
“The Champagne of beer,” Harris replied, quoting the drink’s marketing tagline.
The appearance was part of a media blitz that also saw Harris sit down with the hosts of “The View” and do a lengthy interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM.
Like those outlets, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was a friendly atmosphere that never included probing questions.
And Colbert’s continued mocking of Trump boosted Harris’ message.
When they asked him about Trump’s defeat in 2020 – which the billionaire still refuses to acknowledge – he took the opportunity to taunt his rival.
He said, “You know, when you lose millions of jobs, you lose manufacturing, you lose automotive plants, you lose the election, what does that make you? A loser.”
“That’s what happens when I drink beer,” she laughed.
