Yellowstone actor Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, spoke to Screen Rant about the possibilities for his character, a loyal member of the Dutton family ranch. His prominence on the show has been proven time and again, whether it’s the Montana ranch or his strong relationship with Beth Dutton.
After Kevin Costner left the show before Yellowstone Season 5, Part B finished filming, Wheeler may have to take on different roles on the range. The actor told the outlet that his character will evolve in the second half of Season 5 — he’ll be the head of the family
Farm. “Yes, ultimately, it’s time to grow up,” he told the outlet.
Hauser explained that his character had already laid the groundwork for the workings of the farm, including “the intricacies of the bunkhouse and dealing with some of the stuff.” So his character has done everything the situation demands change or improvement.
In the second half of Season 5, he will not only be a support to Beth, but will also help in improving and running the farm, which was looked after by John (Costner), the head of the Dutton family.
The Bodyguard actor’s sudden departure midway through the shooting of Season 5 was a shocker. Reportedly, the reason was creative and salary disputes along with scheduling issues. However, during an interview with People, Costner expressed his “disappointment” at the narrative and said he left the show because “the scripts weren’t there.”
According to him, there was a long gap in the filming schedule which led to this decision. Although he admitted that the series is “dear” to him, We will not be recasting his role in future seasons.
However, Christina Voros, one of the directors, told The Hollywood Reporter that her character will remain integral to the story despite her absence. “His presence is integral. John Dutton is still central,” he told the outlet.
