Tim Burton on making ‘Beetlejuice 2’: Wanted to make it for personal reasons
Hollywood director Tim Burton recently shared his feelings of disillusionment with the film industry before making the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel. He stressed that the project was motivated by personal reasons. The film also received a three-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.
Renowned director Tim Burton recently opened up about being disillusioned with the film industry ahead of beginning work on the much-anticipated sequel to his iconic film ‘Beetlejuice’. On Wednesday, August 28, Burton admitted that in recent years, he had been somewhat ‘lost’ in his career. The director also clarified that his decision to make the sequel was not driven by financial gain or a desire to capitalise on the original film’s success.
He highlighted his commitment to authenticity and creative integrity, saying, “I didn’t want to make a big sequel for the money. I wanted to make it for very personal reasons.”
“Over the last couple of years, I had become a little disillusioned with the film industry. I had lost myself,” Burton revealed, offering a rare glimpse into the personal challenges that have influenced his work. However, the opportunity to return to the world of ‘Beetlejuice’ rekindled his love for filmmaking. “I realized the only way to be successful is that I have to love doing it. For this movie, I enjoyed making it and loved it,” he said, emphasizing the deep personal connection he felt with the project.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation lasting over three minutes.
The film reunites viewers with the Deetz family. Lydia, now the host of a raunchy ghost-hunting show, returns to the haunted Winter River house with her stepmom, Delia (O’Hara), and her irascible daughter, Astrid, who opens a door to the afterlife.
The sequel to ‘Beetlejuice’ is titled ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, which stars Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe and many others. The film will hit theaters on September 6.
