Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s thug life is ready to hit theaters in a few hours. The much awaited gangster drama has wrapped its advance booking in Tamil Nadu with a reasonable Rs 8.25 crore in pre -sales. It indicates an early day of Rs 15-16 crore in the state, which descends between the introduction of retro and Amarran. Amarran released on holiday, so the realistic opening of that film would have been around Rs 11-12 crore.
While it indicates a decent kickoff, it decreases with blockbuster expectations for this prestigious cooperation. Here the thugs are a breakdown of the advance booking performance of life and what does it mean to its box office prospects.
In Tamil Nadu, the thug life has seen the presidents worth Rs 8.25-8.50 crore. It is strong like Ryan and Thanglan recently compared to the Tamil release, but it is behind Kamal Haasan’s own Vikram. The film’s performance in major regions such as Chennai, Coimbatore and Chengalpet is running numbers, while mass centers are not as good.
Outside Tamil Nadu, advance bookings are less impressive. 60 lakh rupees for the early day for Kerala’s east-selling day is expected to be closed. The Telugu states and North India are estimated to add a joint of about Rs 1 crore, which takes the All India advance booking to a total of Rs 9.75-10 crore. It determines the thug life for a nationwide opening of Rs 19-20 crore, which is a respectable but slightly less time for a film on this scale.
The absence of Karnataka due to a controversy over Kamal Haasan’s comment on Kannada language is a major setback, an estimated revenue of Rs 2-3 crore in a possible revenue for the initial day. Internationally, the film is better if we talk on a relative basis.
Good news for thugs life is its financial security trap. The film has already recovered its cost (except for Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s fees) through non-quarterly deals. It reduces pressure on dramatic earnings. However, to be a hit, the thug life requires more than 250 crore rupees worldwide.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life again associated him with Kamal Haasan after the 1987 classic hero. Star-staded cast including Silambarson, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Lakesmi, along with AR Rahman’s music, adds to the promotion. With any large Tamil release competition, there is a clear run in thugs life. If the action and drama is delivered, it can be Kamal Haasan’s next major hit.
