Throwback when after the flop of Liger, Vijay Deverakonda had said, ‘This is the punishment I gave myself.’

Popular actor Vijay Deverakonda made his Bollywood debut in 2022 with the film Liger. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film stars Ananya Panday in the lead role and was simultaneously shot in Hindi and Telugu. While Liger created a lot of buzz on social media before its release, its box-office collection was a disappointment. In a throwback interview, Vijay Deverakonda talked about the failure of Liger and how he punished himself.

According to a report in ETV Bharat, Vijay Deverakonda, while talking about what he has learned after the release of Liger, said, “There is no change in my attitude. I have been the same before and after the release. The only difference is that I decided.” Not talking about the results of my films for the next three films (before release), that’s the punishment I gave myself.

The Dear Comrade actor revealed this while promoting his upcoming film Family Star with Mrunal Thakur in Hyderabad. Vijay Deverakonda called this ban imposed on himself a punishment. This truly reflects his commitment to growth and professional integrity.

For those who don’t know, before the release of Liger, Vijay had predicted the success of his first project with Puri Jagannadh. “I will start counting the box office numbers after Rs 200 crore,” said the Geetha Govindam actor. However, despite being promoted to be Vijay Deverakonda’s first pan-Indian film, Liger received criticism from both critics and audiences.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Vijay Deverakonda was last seen in a special cameo role as Lord Arjun in Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Kali 2898 AD. Next, the actor is gearing up for his two much-awaited films, VD12 and VD14 (tentative title). The makers of the upcoming film revealed the actor’s first look from the film.

Deverakonda has collaborated with Gautham Tinnanuri for VD12, which is scheduled to release on March 28, 2025. Apart from VD12, he has joined forces with Ravi Kiran Kola for another action-packed entertainer. The actor had announced both the films on his birthday this year.
