What do you do with opened masala boxes? We are talking about the small paper-thin cardboard boxes that are filled with the different powdered spices that are usually found in Indian shops. Some of us might empty them into an airtight container in an organised manner. Others might haphazardly close the flaps and keep them in a cabinet. Some might even have a box just for keeping different spice packets. Well, a vlogger on Instagram recently showcased a hack that promises to offer another solution. His reel has garnered over 12 million views so far. However, not all users agree.

The video has been shared by Shashank Alshi. He revealed that he had seen another Instagram reel that showed how to secure the cans so that they don’t fall. In the caption, he mentioned that his reel was inspired by video creator Ruby Gulfam Ali (@sanamultitalent). He demonstrates the process step by step. He first cuts the small flaps on either end of the spice box. He then folds a larger flap inwards. He presses the top of the can with both palms so that a fold is formed on both sides. Finally, he folds the other larger flap inwards and presses the edges together to ‘close’ the can. Watch the full viral video below:

In the comments, some people found the idea interesting and useful. However, others felt it wasn’t the best storage method. Some shared potential risks and offered other suggestions. Here’s what some Instagram users said about the viral hack:
