Glen Powell, now a household name, recalls his hard-fought days in Hollywood. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Twisters actor admitted that he went through some of the worst moments during his early days as an actor. “As a struggling actor, there’s no place more difficult than being in Hollywood with nothing going on,” he told the outlet.

He explained that the currency of this job profile is based around a person’s relevance and last job which makes the person extremely self-conscious. The Anything But You actor revealed that at times he had to lie to himself to get through uncertain times. He said, “Even in the darkest moments in that town, when I really had nothing going on, you have to lie to yourself.”

Powell often lived under the illusion that the bad times were a chapter in his life where things were not going well. He added, “You have to believe the Hollywood legends of the people you admire, the people you’re following, also had long periods of famine.”

Powell emphasized that many people do not understand that it is difficult to even get an audition in the industry, let alone get a role. “People say, ‘Oh man, it’s going to be hard to audition.’ And I’m like, ‘No, auditioning is a luxury,'” he said, further revealing that there was a lot of preparation before even getting into acting, like headshots and enough money to afford an agent. Is required.

He noted how he would struggle to find people to talk to even at a “damn” Hollywood party. However, he admitted that the auditions are the best part of the process. “Auditioning feels like you’re at a party. You have stepped beyond the velvet rope. You might not be able to buy a drink at the party, but you’re in it, you can taste it,” Powell explained.

However, due to the tough nature of the business, many people remain outside the velvet rope and sometimes cannot even get around. Powell got his breakout role as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Since then he has given hit films one after the other and has become a well-known personality in the industry.
