‘There’s no excuse’: Grey’s Anatomy writer Elizabeth Finch, who faked cancer diagnosis, opens up amid controversial docuseries

Elizabeth Finch, the former Grey’s Anatomy writer who faked her cancer diagnosis on the set of the show, has opened up to the media after the Peacock documentary, Anatomy of Lies, released the first preview of the three-part show Was.

On social media, the former writer-producer of the long-running medical series claimed that she will not be making any excuses or saying anything otherwise, as she takes full accountability for her actions.

On Tuesday, October 15, the streaming platform released the first look at the upcoming documentary, in which people close to Finch revealed personal and insider details about the writer, making her portrayal believable.

Andy Reese, who worked with Finch on the set, shared that the writer-producer used to talk nonsense and would come to the set with her head shaved.

Meanwhile, opening up about his actions, Finch said on his social media, “The truth is, there is no excuse, no justification – no one will ever make up for my lies.”

She continued, “Nothing can erase the trauma I caused – fear, pain, anger, tears, time. And nothing matters more to me than holding myself accountable in every way. Whatever harm I could I will continue to fix it.” And make sure I’m not the worst thing I’ve ever done.”

Finch claimed that she knows it will take time for people to forgive her, but she is ready to wait.

Reese mentions in clips from the documentary that Finch also asked for medical props on the set of Grey’s Anatomy, which would help him work longer on the show. Finch’s lie was finally caught in March 2022, when Disney and the production house investigated Finch’s medical records.

He was placed on administrative leave, causing the producer to file his resignation and close the investigation. Although the author initially did not submit documents, in December of the same year she revealed that she had been faking her illness the entire time.

Anatomy of Lies will be available to stream on Peacock starting October 15th.
