James Van Der Beek, known for his roles on One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek, has confirmed to PEOPLE that he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. “I have colorectal cancer. I am dealing with this diagnosis privately and am taking steps to resolve it with the support of my incredible family,” the actor told the outlet. There is reason for optimism, and I feel good,” he added.
Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum and makes its way to the intestines, according to the American Cancer Society. James Van Der Beek continues to work despite his diagnosis, he recently appeared in an episode of Walker and is set to star in Sidelined: The QB and Me, a Tubi original movie premiering on November 29. Will be released.
The actor is also prioritizing his family which includes his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek and their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. In June, the group traveled to Egypt and shared tons of photos from their trip on Instagram.

He also mentioned how his children were rock stars to him, with his friends becoming as close as his brothers. He added, “Despite all the traveling and crossing time zones and early-morning alarm clocks, I feel refreshed.” Appearing on The Real Full Monty, a special show where male celebrities take off their clothes to raise awareness for prostate, testicular and colorectal cancer testing and research.
The special’s co-star Taye Diggs spoke to People about the show, which is inspired by the 1997 film The Full Monty and executive produced by Anthony Anderson. The Real Full Monty will premiere on December 9.
