Jason ‘Sundance’ Head is speaking for the first time since returning home from the hospital after accidentally shooting himself while hunting alone at his Texas farm. The country singer’s agent, Trey Newman, confirmed to People that The Voice Season 11 winner was alone in the woods when the accident occurred around 4:00-4:30 p.m. local time on Friday, November 15.
Sundance’s wife Misty Head shared several updates about his health on Facebook in the coming days, revealing that the 46-year-old Darlin’ Don’t Go singer was home from the hospital as of November 16 and was in stable condition. In the update, she mentioned that her car journey home was not smooth, as bumps on the road caused turbulence that caused bleeding through her bandages.
On Sunday, November 17, Sundance personally posted on Facebook, titled ‘Statement – Part I’.
The musician began his message, recorded in front of a glowing Christmas tree at his home, by thanking God and the healthcare workers at UT Tyler Hospital who helped him recover from the tragic experience. He added, “I was sure I was going to die.” “It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me.”
He was accidentally shot in the stomach while alone, Sundance said, giving no further details other than that other than the pain caused by the wound, he was doing well.
“I have a lot of life left, and that’s what I was telling the ladies and gentlemen who were trying to keep me alive during the whole process, man. I’m really, really grateful to the first responders. They did a great job,” he added.
Sundance also acknowledged and expressed gratitude towards the stranger who stopped to help her when she was “bleeding” on the side of the road. Noticing that at least a dozen cars passed by, looked at him and without stopping to make eye contact, the singer told the stranger that he realized he would not have been able to get here without him.
“I tell you what, buddy, I was at the end of the road,” he continued. “So, I’m really lucky and grateful for the few gentlemen who turned up. I want to tell you honestly that I love you, and I am so grateful that you were in my life all this time.
Describing their meeting as “no fluke”, Sundance said she looked forward to “spending more time” with the good man in the future.
The Voice alum, who was on Blake Shelton’s team during the 2016 season of the music reality series, also thanked his fans for their thoughts and prayers. He promised his fans that he would share more details about his experience in the coming weeks.
Sundance competed on the 2007 season of American Idol and reached the semi-finals before tasting success with her stint on The Voice.
