American federal mortgage giant Fanny Mai has closed around 700 employees including Telugu workers in two days. Most of them were fired on a “moral base”, citing sources by the Times of India.
According to Termination English Daily, the plan designed to support charitable donations is associated with irregularities and misuse of the company’s “matching grant program”.
Some employees were allegedly worked with hand with non-profit organizations, such as the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), and the company’s funds were misused. The Tana is at the center of the controversy, one with a kept employee with a regional vice -president in the organization and the other is the spouse of the former chairman of the US Telugu Association (ATA), the report said in the report.
The dispute follows a similar scam in Apple in January 2025, where more than 100 employees were fired to misuse its “matching gift program”. Tech veteran program matches the charitable contribution of employees for eligible non-profit organizations.
Some employees allegedly coordinated with some charitable organizations and to make records of fraud and transfer the matching funds themselves. Although the figures are unconfirmed, about 185 employees were suggested.
The TANA was being investigated in relation to the alleged misuse of the corporate matching grant, including the people of Apple.
According to a report by the Federal Investigation Bureau of Investigation (FBI) The Economic Times, Tana is investigating the Department of Internal Revenue Services (IRS) and Justice (DoJ).
The Santa Clara County District Attorney Office accused six former apple non-Indian employees of exploiting the company’s charitable donation program in December last year. As a result, about $ 152,000 was extracted from the company and overporting around $ 100,000 in charitable contribution as tax cuts.
Last December, the northern district of the California Court issued a subponna to Tana to testify to a grand jury, requesting the records of donations received, the delegates spent and information on the representatives working for the organization at various levels between 2019 and 2024.
