What habits should you avoid while drinking water?

According to Ayurvedic health coach Dimple Jangda (@dimplejangdaofficial), you should keep these three things in mind before drinking water every day. This is extremely important because, according to the expert, water is prana – the source of life.

1. Avoid plastic bottles

If you have reusable plastic bottles for drinking water at home, it’s time to ditch them. This is because scientists have found microplastics in human blood that are carcinogenic. According to the expert, this happens when sunlight comes in contact with the plastic bottle and releases microplastics in the water. These microplastics, when consumed through water, can spread throughout the body and settle in our organs. Moreover, experts reveal that these microplastics contain a mix of EDCs or endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can cause inflammation and even damage DNA.

2. Do not gulp down too much water

Most of us have a habit of drinking water without thinking, but according to experts, this is the wrong way. In fact, drinking water quickly does not help you hydrate better. When you drink it fast, the impurities present in the water, which should be flushed out, get accumulated in the bladder and kidneys. So, drink water slowly. Drinking small sips strengthens your digestive system and boosts metabolism in your body, helping you lose weight.

3. Do not drink water while standing

Yes, you read it right! The best way to drink water is while sitting. According to experts, Ayurveda suggests that when you drink water while standing, you do not get the nutrients and minerals from the water as it goes into the lower part of your stomach. Also, it puts pressure on the kidneys and bladder. So, remember to drink water slowly while sitting to get the full benefits of water.

So, what is the right way to drink water?

Now that you know how you should not drink water, Dimple Jangda explains how you should drink it to get the most out of it. Experts suggest boiling water and storing it in an earthen pot.

Why?

Most of the food we eat becomes acidic when it enters the body and forms toxins. When water is stored in earthen pots, this water becomes alkaline. When consumed, this water combines with the acidic food in the body and forms toxins. This helps keep acidic and digestive problems at bay. Also, water stored in earthen pots is free from any kind of chemicals, so consuming it every day can increase your metabolism.

What to use?

Experts suggest drinking water in silver glasses, brass vessels, copper glasses (in moderation) or steel glasses instead of plastic bottles as these items do not dissolve in your water.
