The picture of Maa Durga made from grains is making headlines this Navratri.

A festival full of joy and devotion, Navratri honors Goddess Durga. This year, the festivities began on October 3 and will end with Dussehra on October 12. Devotees across the country engaged in rituals, dance and prayers, paying homage to the goddess and her nine forms. A notable highlight of this year’s festival is an extraordinary image of Maa Durga made entirely of grains. Shared on Reddit, the artwork shows the face of the goddess, which has been carefully crafted using various grains including lentils, rice, kumkum and cumin. It is presented on a steel plate over a banana leaf.

Chef Vikas Khanna also recently shared a video of his artwork of Maa Durga on Instagram. He sketched the picture while his talented team helped bring it to life. The revelation came at a ceremony attended by her “favorite family members,” Pushpa Sabharwal and Neerja Patel.

Last year, a Pune man had unveiled a portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi made using grains and millets to commemorate his birthday. This painting is 10 by 18 feet and is made from approximately 60 kilograms of grain. This artwork was created by artist Ganesh Khare and his team in 18 hours. He explained in detail about the specific grains used, which include wheat, sesame, masoor dal, green moong dal, jowar, ragi, toor dal and mustard.
