Paramount is bringing back the classic the naked gun franchise with a new installment set for release in theaters on August 1, 2025. The riboot is being described as a ‘Legacy sequel’ and is included as Liam Neeson, the son of Leslie Nielson’s original character, as Frank Drebin Junior.
Produced by Akiva Shefer (SNL, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by Seth McFarlen (Family Gai, Ted), the new film takes a fresh on the Spuf-Comedy heritage started in 1988.
Along with Neeson, the artists have included Pamela Anderson as a mysterious fame named Beth and as Captain Ed Hocaine Junior as Paul Walter Hosor, as son of George Kennedy’s character from original films, as the son of George Kennedy. A contingent of artists includes Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshi, Kodi Rhodes, CCH Pounder, Basta Rhymes and ADU.

Paramount demolished the New the Naked Gun trailer on 16 June. The version of Liam Neeson’s Drabin hugged a slap in his famous ‘Special Set of Skills’ from tired films.
In a scene, Drabin says, “Once you kill a man to take revenge, weapons are not going back before using ripped-off arms as weapons.” He is with a voiceover as follows: “It was great.”
We also see emotional nodes for the heritage of the franchise as Frank and Ed Junior, which are in front of the memorial plates honoring their father. In a classic joke, the Drebin interrogates a suspect who served 20 years for ‘man’s laughter’, only it can be corrected that it was a ‘mannorater’. Drebin replies: “Must have been quite a joke.”
In this new story, Frank Drebin is a top officer in the Junior Elite Police Squad. When Beth’s brother is murdered, he is pulled into action, and the future of the squad is on the line. If the drabin fails to resolve the case, the department will be closed. Of course, the absurd humor remains intact, with Drebin the command of a coffee shop toilet for the ‘police business’.
Original the Naked Gun: Police Squad Files! It was released in 1988 and was followed by two sequels: The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Final Insult (1994). The reboot was announced for the first time in 2013 with Ed Hales, but it never proceeded. Director David Jukar, who helped original films, said it would only be inferior.
While he was summarized for the 2017 rewriting, the version was also stalled. Juker is not involved in the current project and told TMZ that he regrets the teaser, saying, “I can’t ignore it.”
