The Girlfriend performed well in the first weekend, earning Rs. Have earned Rs. 10.50 crore at the worldwide box office. The film had a slow start and collected Rs 10 crore. Earned Rs 1.50 crore on the first day in India. On the second day it registered a jump of 40 percent and reached Rs. 2.50 crores. Another jump was seen in the film’s earnings on the third day. 3 crores and opening weekend closing at Rs. Earning Rs 7 crore at the domestic box office.
The film also found audiences in international markets, where it grossed US$450K in the first three days, taking the total to just above double digits.
Although the start was slow, the trend over the weekend has been positive. The film still has to perform much better. All eyes are now on its Monday hold and then how it performs on weekdays. If the film manages to hold good traction and register strong trends going forward, it will do well till the end of its theatrical run.
Directed by Rahul Raveendran, The Girlfriend has received a positive response among the audience and critics, which is a big win for such a female-centric film.
