The drama starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in lead roles is doing well at the box office. Directed by Christopher Borgli, the romantic comedy grossed US$1.6 million on its seventh day (Thursday), marking an 8 percent decline from Wednesday.
The film bettered Zendaya’s Challengers’ US$1.4 million record earlier on Thursday. Compared to previous A24 production ventures, it came in under the US$4.5 million budget of Marty Supreme and the US$1.6 million budget of Civil War. That said, the R-rated rom-com recorded the third-best Thursday debut for A24 at the US box office.
This brought the drama’s US box office earnings to US$22.1 million in its 7-day theatrical run. Made on a budget of US$28 million, the film is on the right track to recover its expenses and emerge as a profitable venture. It will be interesting to see how the film performs in its second weekend and then on weekdays.
In addition to Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, the drama also stars Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, Zoe Winters, Anna Baryshnikov and Michael Abbott Jr. The story of the film revolves around Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, who are soon set to walk down the aisle to say their ‘I dos’. A happily engaged couple’s life is thrown into turmoil when one of them discovers a strange secret about the other. Their trust in each other, loyalty and life plans are tested.
