The Bengal Files final box office: Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama crosses Rs 15 crore mark; proves to be a flop

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files had a disappointing theatrical performance. Releasing on September 5, 2025, along with Baaghi 4 and The Conjuring: Last Rites, the political drama is expected to make around Rs. 1.35 crore on the day of release. Although the film started its journey slowly, it showed promising trends at the box office in the first week and earned Rs 20 crore. 9.65 crore nett.

It also crossed Rs. 10 crore mark in the second weekend, while facing new releases, especially Mirai and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which significantly affected its box office performance. The film lost momentum in the second week before giving up in the third week to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s Jolly LLB 3.

The film managed a few shows but did not gain much popularity, leading to a disappointing exit from the theatres. The Bengal Files ran its entire theatrical run for just Rs. Completed in. Earning Rs 15.25 crore at the Indian box office. It proved to be a flop at the box office.

For those unaware, The Bengal Files marks the conclusion of Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s ‘Files Trilogy’, of which The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files were the first two films. The political period drama, set against the backdrop of the Noakhali riots in pre-independence Bengal, was praised for its tough storyline and thought-provoking subject matter. However, it faced polarized reactions, due to which it did not achieve the kind of success one might have expected. The film is now streaming on the OTT platform. Let’s see if it can become the talk of the town with its digital debut.
