An 80-year-old mother donated her kidney to her son, who was suffering from end-phase kidney disease.
80 -year -old Darshan Jain gave his son Rajesh a 59 -year -old businessman, second chance in life.
When he was diagnosed two years ago, both his mother and son offered to donate a kidney. After the medical test, doctors found that his mother was the best match.
Rajesh said, “First, I hesitated. She was an elderly, and I was worried about what people would say.” He initially refused implantation, but as his health deteriorated, his family convinced him to move forward with surgery.
Dr. BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital. A team of multi-disciplinary doctors led by HS Bhatayal successfully performed the transplant.
Dr. Bhatayal said that Rajesh was on dialysis and had limited donor options. Despite his age, philosophy was found to be a suitable donor, which is rare in such cases.
“Despite age being a challenge, surgery was originally executed. Darshan Jain was discharged on the fourth postoperative day, and the recipient made a remarkable recovery, and was discharged on the sixth day post-transplant. The matter reflects modern medicine and the power of a mother’s love,” he said.
While Darshan was discharged exactly four days after the surgery, Rajesh was allowed to go home on the sixth day. When it comes to organ donation, age should not be a hindrance if the donor is healthy, highlighted doctors.
Rajesh is now recovering and will rest in bed for three months. His mother is doing well and is in good health.
