Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled to release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with Pongal. However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not yet certified the film, resulting in the release being delayed and no final date has been announced.
As the release of the film continues to be postponed, reports suggest that the OTT platform may consider legal action against the makers, as the release schedule is being affected due to the delay.
Is the OTT platform preparing to sue the makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayakan?
According to reports, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of Jana Naygan for Rs 120 crore. According to Asianet News, the OTT platform has expressed disappointment over the repeated postponements of the film’s release, which is reportedly impacting its planned streaming window.
Amazon is considering legal action against Prime Video creators, due to delays caused by scheduling conflicts for the platform’s upcoming releases. However, this remains speculation at the moment, with no official confirmation from the makers or the platform.
Recently, the CBFC informed the Madras High Court that the initial 14 cuts suggested by it were only an “intermediary” decision, on which a final decision is yet to be taken by the board. At present the court has reserved its decision and the date of the decision is still awaited.
