Thalaivettiyan Paillayam Review: Remake of web series Panchayat stays true to its roots, delivers a soulful and breezy drama laced with humour

Must read

The web series Thalaivathaiyan Palayam is finally available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from September 20, 2024. The remake of the Hindi show Panchayat stars popular Tamil comedian Abhishek Kumar in the lead role.

Apart from Abhishek, the series also stars Chetan, Devadarshini Chetan, Niyati, Anand Sami, Paul Raj and many others in lead roles. If you are interested in watching the series then here is Pinkvilla’s review.

Plot:

Thalaivetiyaan Palayam is the story of Siddharth, an engineering graduate who takes up a low-paying job as the secretary of the Thalaivetiyaan Palayam Panchayat. Coming from an urban background, he finds it difficult to adjust with the people and the norms established there.

The rest of the series focuses on how Siddharth deals with the villagers on different occasions on a daily basis. The show also takes him on an inner journey as he adapts to the village and its surroundings.

Good thing:

Thalaivatiyaan Palayam is undoubtedly a take on the story of the popular Hindi show Panchayat; however, it doesn’t fall short in creating its own soul. Taking you on a dramatic journey laced with humour, the show grabs attention right from the start, and stays true to the world.

The story of the show is set in a Tamil village near Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Abhishek beautifully plays the role of a young man who is confused in his new surroundings. Along with him, the supporting cast of actors like Chetan, Devadarshini Chetan, Anand Sami and Paul Raj made us laugh a lot.

The drama’s simple and effortless narrative also seems a slice of life in many instances, making us comfortable with its characters and surroundings. While the series had great performances as well as execution, the show was definitely aided by the editing skills of the makers.

Moreover, the show did not rely on any clichéd tropes and the writing of its characters was also well done. The organic progression of the narrative, which has a simple arc to traverse, is a perfect example of a screenplay.

bad:

Despite the show’s organic narrative and well-written characters, the dialogues seemed a bit disappointing. While many funny events take place around the village and the newcomers, the show failed to hit the target with its creativity in conversations.

Also, the show had a beautiful song that was played at a crucial moment, but the rest of the background score again failed to achieve the target. However, despite this small annoyance, the live sound of the series was really captivating.

Display:

Thalaivatiyaan Palayam is full of colourful characters, played naturally by actors who are true to their roles. While Abhishek played his character well, Chetan and his real-life wife Devadarshini managed to win hearts.

Despite a few flaws, their beautiful relationship feels like a real-life husband and wife. Similarly, actors Anand Sami and Paul Raj add the much-needed versatility to the story, which you will enjoy whenever they perform on screen.

Decision:

Thalaivatiyaan Palayam is a humorous story that will make you laugh out loud with its lovable characters. However, for those who love the original Hindi version, it might not work completely.

However, if you want to experience a fun, dramatic story set in a Tamil backdrop that is very simple, then this show is undoubtedly for you.
