Thai Watchdog had identified concerns over the collapse of earthquakes in the earthquake

An anti-corruption watchdog flagged off irregularities in the construction of the Bangkok skyscraper, which collapsed in the earthquake last week and killed at least 11 people, the head of the monitoring group told the Reuters.

The government threatened to cancel the project earlier this year, as due to the delay, Maina Nimitmongkol, president of the anti -corruption organization in Thailand, said on Sunday.

The government has announced an investigation into the cause of the collapse of the tower, which was being built by a Chinese company and a long -established Thai construction firm.

The rescue teams were still making strict discovery for 76 more people on Monday, which was feared to be trapped under the wreck of 30-storey tower incomplete for Thailand’s State Audit Office.

The incomplete tower was the only Bangkok building that broke completely when the 7.7 magnitude earthquake collided with mid -Myanmar on Friday and shook the neighboring countries.

The construction of the building, which began in 2020, is being a joint venture between Italian Thai development PCL and a local subsidiary of China -owned China Railway Group, China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Limited.

The Italian Thai Development and the China Railway Group did not immediately comment on contact by Reuters.

The audit office has said that it will examine the cause of the collapse of the building. It did not answer the e-mail questions from the Reuters whether it has threatened to cancel the construction contract.

The tower was originally slated to complete by 2026, but was behind the schedule. Deputy Auditor General, Sutathipong Boonithi told reporters on Saturday that the construction was “30% completed” before “30% completed”.

The visit to the site for the project during construction by the anti -corruption group had expressed concern about delays, workers’ lack and possible corner cuts, Mana said.

“Sometimes the number of workers on the site should be very low, which should be delayed,” he said. “Potentially there was a crowd to complete the project to the end, which could cause a decline in the work standard.”

Mann, whose organization investigates some 170 government projects across the country, said that the delay was so serious that the audit office threatened to cancel the contract with two construction companies in January.

ITD share prices rose by 30% when the market opened against 1% benchmark drop on Monday.

No other building fell

Thai Prime Minister Patongtern Shinavatra on Saturday ordered government agencies to investigate the root cause of the fall of the building within a week.

The official Thai check -up construction scheme, along with the standard of materials used during the construction of the building, is looking at the possible unprotected action.

Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Han Jhinkiang on Sunday said that China would cooperate in the investigation.

Thai Industry Minister Akanat Promphon told Reuters that he was worried that sub-standard steel could be used in the construction of the building as he led the team collecting samples from the debris on Sunday.

The material collected was being tested on the site, and the results were expected to be declared on Monday afternoon.

He said that the ministry is breaking up on companies that have produced sub-standard steel in the last six months, closed seven factories and seized assets of 360 million BAHT (about $ 10 million) from these steel companies.

“Many of these factories used an old production process and equipment transferred from China,” Akanat said, “This has led to sub-standard steel.”

Engineers Council experts who are assisting the government in a survey of buildings around the Thai capital for earthquake damage, estimated that the skyscraper could be collapsed due to unsafe material or poor plan in the process of skyscraper.

“It is strange that no other buildings are suffering in this way,” a board member of the Council of Engineers Thailand, Anene Siripanichgorn, told the Reuters.

“Even other tall buildings under construction, they did not collapse,” he said.
