The Telugu film industry is mourning the disadvantage of veteran actor Venkat Raj, widely known as Fish Venkat, who died on Friday at the age of 53. He was treating kidney failure at PRK Hospital in Chandanagar, Hyderabad, where he was placed on the ventilator support in his last days.
Fish Venkat had been struggling with kidney -related complications for the past nine months. With both the kidneys failed, he was undergoing regular dialysis, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Despite the best efforts of doctors, he died due to illness.
A familiar face in Telugu cinema, Venkat began his film journey with the 2000 hit ‘Kushi’ and earned recognition for his special comic timing and villain roles in films like ‘Audi’, ‘Bani’, and ‘Gabbar Singh’. Known for his infallible Telangana accents, he created a place for himself in styles. His recent performances in Slum Dog Hasband and Narkasura were appreciated by the audience.
In recent months, his family was struggling to manage growing medical expenses. His daughter, Shrwanti, revealed that a kidney transplant – an estimated at a cost of about Rs 50 lakh – was immediate need. However, financial obstacles and non -availability of a suitable donor obstructed the process. Although some assistance was increased by actor Prabhas, its requirement decreased.
Fish Venkat is alive by his wife, Suvarna and daughter, Shreevanti. His death leaves a void in Telugu cinema, where his lively performance and on-screen Karishma made him a favorite appearance.
