Tecno quietly unveiled the Spark 30, and today, we got a press release regarding the official launch of the series. The vanilla smartphone is getting a bigger brother – the Spark 30 Pro and both come with a custom Transformer edition.
The Pro phone features 4.5G (ie LTE Advanced) connectivity and the software also includes some of Tecno’s latest AI features.
The screen on the Spark 30 Pro is a 6.78″ AMOLED with a FullHD+ resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and 1,700 nits peak brightness. The flat panel has a fingerprint scanner at the bottom and a 13MP selfie camera under a punch hole.
Talking about the cameras, there are two cameras on the back – the main camera is 108-megapixels, and the other one is called the “AI Camera”, which is probably a depth sensor that helps blur background in portrait photos.
Tecno has equipped the phone with MediaTek’s Helio G100 chipset, which is just a notch above the Helio G99 and is currently the most powerful LTE-only platform in the market.
The phone has 8GB of RAM, which the company describes as 16GB as it can be expanded; storage is 128GB or 256GB.
The company was really proud of the development of its AI capabilities, and some of them made it into this no-frills Spark 30 Pro along with Android 14 and HIOS. It has AIGC Imaging, a suite with AI Portrait, Eraser, and Cut-out features.
It has a voice assistant powered by Google Gemini, and also has AI Wallpaper and AI Artboard, which can slightly customize the look of the software according to the user’s preference.
The phone is just 7.4mm thin and has a 5,000mAh battery that supports up to 33W fast charging. Tecno tested the phone and said that it can withstand 25,000 drops from 10cm, 600 drops, and 2,000 times of pressure. The USB-C has a life of 20,000 plugs and the volume buttons have a life of up to 500,000 times.
The Spark 30 Pro also features dual stereo speakers, Dolby Hi-Res Audio, FM radio, NFC, and an infrared port on the top for controlling home appliances.
Tecno Spark 30 Bumblebee • Tecno Spark 30 Pro Optimus Prime
The Transformers Edition of the Spark 30 and Spark 30 Pro come in two different colours. Tecno has given the Spark 30 a Bumblebee-inspired black and yellow look, while the Spark 30 Pro comes in blue, red and silver, which are the colours of Optimus Prime.
TECNO said in a press release that its partnership with Hasbro, the company that owns the Transformers rights, aims to add “an extra layer of excitement for energetic youth.” The phone will come with exclusive branded merchandise and gift sets.
The Tecno Spark 30 Pro also comes in Obsidian Edge (Black) and Arctic Glow (White) colours. The price and availability of the phone and its custom variants are yet to be revealed.
