Donald Trump warns India on Russian oil: ‘Modi wanted to please me, but tariffs are an option’
In a stern message to New Delhi, US President Donald Trump has claimed that India has specifically reduced crude oil imports from Russia to ‘appease them’. Speaking amid geopolitical turmoil involving Venezuela, Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘good man’ but warned that the US could ‘raise tariffs on them very quickly’ if his concerns over Russian oil purchases were not addressed. The warning comes as a Kpler report shows India’s Russian oil imports fell nearly 35% to 1.2 million barrels per day in December 2025, the lowest level since 2022. Despite the decline, Russia remains India’s top supplier, although its share has fallen to 25% as refiners like Reliance and MRPL have reduced oil intake.

However, the top court granted bail to five other accused, including Gulfisha Fatima and Mehran Haider. The bench emphasized that ‘delay is not a trump card’ in UAPA cases. Reacting to the decision, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa welcomed the tough stance and said, ‘During the Congress rule, rioters were rewarded… but under the BJP rule, the rioters will remain in jail.’ Sirsa further commented that if such decisive action had been taken during the 1984 riots, the country would not have seen communal violence later.
