Listen to the story

In short
- Aadhaar certification from 1 July 2025 will be sure for all tatkal booking through IRCTC
- IRCTC will also make OTP verification mandatory from July 15
- Ticket booking agents will be banned from booking in the first 30 minutes of Tatkal window
IRCTC is bringing some major changes in the process of booking tickets. Earlier this month, the Railway Ministry announced that starting from 1 July 2025, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will become mandatory for all tatkal booking made through the website and mobile app.
Changes in IRCTC booking are in line with bringing transparency, improving passenger authentication and preventing misuse of tatal quota, which many agents have exploited through bulk booking. Under this new rule, IRCTC will only allow Aadhaar-certified users to book Tatakal railway tickets.
Apart from this, from July 15, the Ministry will also provide the base-based OTP (one-time password) verification for all tatal booking, with passenger reservation system (PRS) counters and authorized railway agents.
The Ministry of Railways has also announced that agents will be stopped from booking tickets during the first 30 minutes after the opening of the booking window.
