Fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani dressed actor-model Kim Kardashian for Anant Anant-Radhika Merchant’s wedding. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Tahiliani revealed the process behind the making of the dress.

Tarun Tahiliani designed a dusty peach lehenga for Kim Kardashian which she wore on the second day of the Ambani celebrations. Talking about it, he told India Today, “With Kim, you don’t get time. We were approached by her stylist Tanya, who is a wonderful person and she is very meticulous. We had to fit the night before. And Kim has a very particular body. But I was lucky that I was in China and I found a mannequin that looked like her body. I just bought it and took it back with me on the plane. It felt like I was fitting Kim even though she wasn’t here.”

He added, “I thought she looked great and I loved it. I told her, ‘You have given Indian women the freedom to love their curves’. It doesn’t matter if you have hips or not. Fashion has become very limiting for a lot of people. Why should we adopt Western people’s thinking about bodies? Our bodies are different, our shapes are different, our culture is different. It takes Kim to make people understand that curves can be beautiful.”

He also added, “It was all done in a very rushed manner, but they were very professional. I didn’t even go to Bombay. Mansha (Saahni, couture designer) led it. They fitted her in. They were wonderful. And it was enjoyable because they were cheerful, happy and excited. Fashion and anything, if it’s good energy, it’s fun. If there’s good energy you can handle the pressure.”

Sharing Kim’s look from the event, Tahiliani wrote, “Global icon Kim Kardashian (@kimkardashian) wears our dusty peach embroidered zari brocade lehenga, embellished with intricate threadwork and Swarovski crystals. Paired with a classic choli featuring bursts of lace and a cascading drape adorned with fine resham, pearl and crystal embroidery (sic).”

She further added, “This is a woman who has single-handedly changed the way we look at a curvy body and possibly freed many Indian women from the pressure of looking like thin-waisted Western women.”

Apart from Kim, Tarun also dressed several celebs including Isha Ambani, Radhika Merchant, Ranveer Singh, Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor and others for the Ambani wedding.
