Tamil musician and actor GV Prakash Kumar seems to have fallen victim to a social media scam after he recently responded to a plea for financial help posted on X (formerly Twitter). Prakash, known for his work in the film industry, transferred Rs 20,000 through a jeepney to someone who pretended to be a needy fan. The incident became public knowledge, drawing attention to the risks of online scams targeting celebrities and their followers.

The reported scam started when a user with the handle ‘Mom Little King’ posted a story about his mother’s recent death, saying she had taken care of him and his sister, and asked for money to perform the last rites. Prakash was tagged in the post, which also included a photo of the alleged dead woman. Although the initial plea appeared genuine, the Internet later exposed the fraud scheme.

The user first tagged Prakash at 11:12 am and repeated his request at 1:59 pm the same day. Prakash responded at 2:24 pm by asking for the user’s Jeep number and a few minutes later, shared a screenshot confirming that he had sent Rs 20,000. The user responded by thanking Prakash, which prima facie made the act appear legitimate.

Fans initially praised the two-time National Award-winning musician for his quick and generous response, with one saying, “Jeevi sir.. really super.. Roomba (very) kind,” highlighting the positive reception before the truth about the reported scandal became clear.

However, as further context was revealed, users learned that the woman in the photo had died in 2022 and the story was being used to trick others out of money. One user clarified, saying, “The dead woman in the above photo passed away in 2022 and OP is scamming money using her name.”

Soon after, comments expressing concern and disappointment appeared on social media. “You have been scammed,” one user warned, while another admitted, “This dog said his mom died a few days ago and asked for money, and I went and sent it.” Another fan commented, “Scammed publicly with Blood,” reflecting the public nature of the scandal. The warnings continued, “Hey please check before helping others scam da,” but by then, the money had already been sent.

Apart from their reactions, many fans urged Prakash to step forward and file a police complaint against the scammer. At this time, Prakash has not issued any public statement regarding the incident or indicated whether he will take legal action.
