Tabu is all set for her upcoming film ‘Auron Mein Kahaan Dum Tha’. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film will see her sharing the screen space with Ajay Devgn once again. During the promotions of the film, Tabu went down memory lane and recalled her professional journey with Shekhar Kapur. She talked about ‘Dushmani’, a film she signed when she was giving her 10th board exams and which was later shelved. She also revealed how Shekhar Kapur convinced her to sign ‘Prem’ but later ran away from the film.

In an interview to India Today’s sister channel Lallantop, Tabu said that she knows Shekhar Kapur since childhood. She met him when she used to visit Shabana Azmi’s house. She said, “Shekhar uncle saw me when I was giving my 10th class exams. At that time he was making ‘Dushmani’… He cast me in ‘Dushmani’ opposite Sunny (Deol). I hadn’t even given my 10th class exams, but he was sure that he wanted me.”

She further added, “So, I came back after giving my 10th exams and he selected me for the film. I didn’t want to do it at that time but he convinced me. Then changes kept happening over the years and it didn’t work out. I even joined college. I was in college for two years. He saw me again and said, ‘Prem. You are my heroine in Prem.’ He had tested several girls for the role. I said I regretted saying yes to ‘Dushmani’ and that I didn’t want to act. I wanted to study abroad.”

She further said, “Shekhar Kapur convinced me to sign ‘Prem’. I signed, the photoshoot happened, I said ‘I will do only this one film’. Shekhar convinced me and said just do this one movie (Just do one film) for me. Then, I will send you wherever you want to go for higher studies. Then, Shekhar left the film and ran away. He left me alone, and this went on for 5-6 years, during which I really regretted saying yes to it.”

‘Prem’ was eventually directed by Satish Kaushik, who was working as an assistant director with Kapoor for ‘Dushmani’. Ajay Devgn, who was also part of the interview, revealed that he was also the assistant director of the film and left it after 60-70 percent of the work was completed because he got an acting offer. However, he was surprised to see that the film was still being made even after eight of his films had released. It was never completed.

Ajay Devgan and Tabu-starrer ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ Earlier, this film was scheduled to release on July 5 along with Karan Johar’s action film ‘Kill’. But later it was postponed and the release date of the film was extended. Now it will release on 2 August,
