Taapsee Pannu on doing big films: Hero decides who will be the heroine

Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu in a recent interview with Indian Express highlighted the disparity in pay she faces when working on major projects like Dunky compared to films where she is the lead star.
Pannu revealed that, contrary to popular belief, she is often paid more for films in which she plays a central role than for larger productions, where she shares the screen with high-profile male actors.
“The funny thing is that people think that I do films like Judwaa or Dinky for money, which make me a lot of money,” she said. “But no, it’s the opposite – I get paid more for doing films that are headlined by me, like Haseen Dilruba. Other films don’t really pay me much because they feel they are doing me a favor by having me in that kind of film,” Pannu said, explaining that this mentality, since a “big hero” is already Part of this project. , There is no need for a highly paid heroine.

Pannu further talked about the control exerted by the male lead in casting decisions, highlighting that in most big budget films, the hero influences the selection of his female co-stars.
“Now, even the audience knows that the hero decides who will be the heroine in most of his films, unless you have a very big, super successful director who has his own audience. Whatever happens, the director will take the decision,” he said.
He said that in about 75 percent of the films, the casting choices are based on male actors playing the lead roles.
According to the Pink actor, the actor often prefers to work with female actors who are currently “in trend” or garnering significant attention from the audience. “Some are safe, others think, ‘I should cast someone who doesn’t overpower me,'” she commented, speaking to the competitiveness within the industry and the inherent gender dynamics in Bollywood.
On the professional front, Taapsee was seen in Khel Khel Mein alongside actors like Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, Vaani Kapoor and Aditya Seal. She will next be seen in ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahan’ opposite Pratik Gandhi.
