The interim foreign minister of Syrian arrived at Iraq on Friday, since its first visit to the country, its Islamic alliance saw Bashar al-Assad.
The relations between neighboring Syria and Iraq have become more complicated since the collapse of Assad, who was close to the government in Baghdad.
The official Iraqi news agency reported that Syrian top diplomat Asad al-Shebani met his counterpart Food Hussain in Baghdad.
Iraq is a Shia Muslim majority home, and while it is a strategic partner in the United States, it is also a prominent ally in Iran, once the main supporter of Assad’s rule.
While the major support of Assad came from Russia, Iran and Hizbullah in Lebanon, the Iraqi armed groups were also engaged in defending their rule during the 13 -year civil war, which originated from their cracks against democracy.
The rebels ending Asad in December are Sunni Muslims, and interim President Ahmed al-Shara, who has sought to present a more liberal image since coming to power, once fought against the US forces and their colleagues with al-Qaeda in Iraq.
Iraq condemned the massacre of at least 1,383 civilians in coastal Syria earlier this month by security forces, affiliated groups and jihadis.
The vast majority of the slain citizens were members of Alvites, the sect of Assad, who himself was an offshoot of Shia Islam.
Iraq said earlier this week that it had vowed to avenge the mass murder of Alvite citizens after a newly formed Iraqi group.
Supporters from pro -Iran’s armed groups in Iraq have launched an online campaign against the Syrians, who say they support the mass murders.
Iraqi forces have arrested at least 13 Syrians in recent times for “promoting terrorist groups” and supporting mass murder in Syria, two internal ministry officials on the condition of anonymity to the AFP.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday slammed violence against its citizens, in a statement to Baghdad urged that “take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Syrians living in Iraq”.
