Imagine this: you are all excited to get ready for a party, but that excitement quickly vanishes when you look in the mirror and see your worst nightmare – a puffy and puffy face. In such a situation, we find ourselves looking for quick remedies to get rid of the puffiness. Sure, rubbing ice cubes on your face may provide temporary relief, but it is not a permanent solution. To prevent a similar situation in the future, you need to address the problem at its root itself. This means, being mindful of what you eat or drink right before the special event. Recently, nutritionist Simran Chopra took to her official Instagram page to share hacks on how to prevent facial puffiness before a party. Before diving into that, let’s find out what causes facial puffiness in the first place.

What causes swelling on the face?

There can be many reasons for facial swelling, the most common of which is the consumption of salt-rich foods. When we eat highly salty foods, our body retains more water, causing swelling and puffiness in the face. Apart from this, consumption of refined carbohydrates can also cause facial swelling. In some cases, it can also be due to lack of sleep or excessive alcohol consumption.

How to get rid of puffiness on the face? Here are 4 easy ways to avoid puffiness on the face before a party:

1. Avoid salty foods

Nutritionists suggest reducing salt intake at least a day before the event. Avoid eating snacks like chips, murukku, French fries, pakodas, etc. Not only are they high in salt, but they are also deep-fried, which can cause skin problems. It is best to avoid them completely if you want a glowing face the next day.

2. Reduce carbohydrate intake

Chopra further says that one should also pay attention to carbohydrate intake. Carbohydrates are not bad for us, but excessive consumption of them can cause water retention in the body, which can lead to facial swelling. If you are unable to eliminate them completely in a day, consider consuming complex carbs instead of refined carbs. She emphasizes on increasing the intake of vegetables and protein throughout the day.

3. Drink plenty of water

Another tip to prevent facial swelling is to drink plenty of water. By doing this, your body naturally flushes out toxins, giving you a healthy glow. Nutritionists recommend drinking at least 3 liters of water a day, especially the day before a party. When you are well hydrated, your skin will not be swollen and puffy.

4. Get enough sleep

Nutritionist Simran Chopra also suggests getting enough sleep – aim for six to eight hours. This allows the skin cells to relax, reducing the risk of facial puffiness. So, make sure to go to bed on time to avoid puffiness the next day.
