Meenakshi Sheshadri is an Indian actor, dancer and artist whose second film Hero made her an overnight star. In the 80s and 90s, she was a popular personality who shared the screen with many big names from the industry like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha. She was also a part of the 1987 film Dakait and was cast opposite Sunny Deol. While her work received positive response, the actress has now revealed that she was not paid enough for it.
During a conversation with Friday Talkies, Meenakshi Sheshadri went back in time and recalled how director Rahul Rawail made her cry when she was cast opposite Sunny Deol in Dacoit. He told the publication that when filmmakers came to meet him, he was happy because he had made films like Betaab, Arjun and Love Story.
While discussing his role in the action film, Rahul clearly told him that the Gadar star will play an important role and his family will have more importance in the film. Having said this, he will be given 5-6 good scenes and 2-3 songs. Despite this, he told her that he did not need to convince her as he was ready to work with her.
She further quipped that Rawail made her cry during the signing because he refused to give her the payment she wanted. The Damini actress remembered that the director had told her, “I will not pay you. You are working with me that is your price. Whatever I give you, take it happily.” Since she was a fan of his work, she would smile even while crying and accept whatever was offered to her.
Despite having a successful acting career in the Hindi and South Indian film industry, Meenakshi left the film industry in 1996 to focus on her personal life and settled in the United States. However, he made a special appearance in the 2016 film Ghayal: Once Again starring Sunny Deol in the lead. But after staying away from the limelight for 27 years, the senior actress intends to make a comeback in the industry.
