Comedian Sunil Pal reveals kidnapping incident, condemns allegations of publicity stunt
Comedian Sunil Pal told India Today Digital that he was kidnapped on the outskirts of Delhi and released after a partial ransom was arranged. He denied allegations that the incident was a publicity stunt.
Comedian Sunil Pal has made a shocking revelation alleging that he was kidnapped from the outskirts of Delhi. In an exclusive conversation with India Today Digital, he said that he was called to the place on the pretext of attending an event. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh, but released him after arranging for around Rs 7.5 lakh with the help of friends. The comedian also criticized those who believe his kidnapping was merely a publicity stunt.
recalling a series of eventsSunil Pal told that he got a call from a person named Amit, who invited him to perform at a birthday party in Haridwar. The organizers also transferred the advance payment to confirm the deal. After landing in Delhi on December 2, he was heading towards the venue when he stopped for breakfast. Meanwhile, a person calling himself a fan pushed him in the car and drove away from there.
“They blindfolded me and took me to a two-storey house where many other people were present. They started threatening me and demanded Rs 20 lakh. When I told them I did not have an ATM card, So they started bargaining and looking for alternative solutions. They took my phone, but allowed me to use it to call friends and arrange money, when they collected enough money, they sent me the next Let the day go and go back home I also paid Rs 20,000 for the flight ticket to come,” Sunil said.
He noted that, although the kidnappers did not physically harm him, the incident left a deep psychological impact. He admitted that he had not initially planned to speak publicly about the incident, but that his wife had already contacted the police, prompting him to share his experience.
“They left me on the roadside, and I went to Delhi airport using auto and metro. I have recorded my statement with the police, who are now investigating the case. The kidnappers have recorded all the calls from my phone. And any evidence has been destroyed.” This may help in locating them. While Sunil is suffering from mental trauma, some people have accused him of carrying out the incident for publicity. Responding to such claims, the comedian expressed disappointment at the lack of empathy. He insisted that his friends had proof of the transaction and a police report had been filed. He said, “If it was just for the fame, we would never have involved the police. I’m just grateful to be alive and that’s all that matters.”
Sunil also mentioned that the kidnappers allegedly used multiple accounts to withdraw money, hampering police efforts to trace them.
