Sunidhi Chauhan has long been one of the most loved singers in the Indian music industry and that is why she is one of the highest paid artists. But her luck hasn’t always been good. During her recent appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Chauhan revealed that she hasn’t received money for some of her best work.
The interviewer referred to a notorious practice where several singers are asked to sing parts of the same song and whoever is selected is paid and everyone else is not even paid for their efforts. “So don’t you get money in Bollywood?” Raj asked, to which Sunidhi said that being left without payment is a common occurrence.
Having said that, the Sheila Ki Jawani singer admitted that singers who are popular definitely have the right to ask for their money. For all singers in general, everyone has the option of asking for money before the song or taking it after the song, which makes it a common ground so that no one is blamed.

Talking further about herself, Sunidhi said, “I have not been paid for many films, even today they don’t pay me. They ask and I don’t take money because I feel I don’t need money for this song. At some places I want to help so I tell my price and sing the song. You don’t want to hurt anyone’s ego because not everyone thinks like you. They may not even understand how you feel.”
40-year-old Chauhan was reminded of Sonu Nigam’s statement in which he had said that everything is under the control of Bollywood mafia and said that ‘there are only a few people, only a few will be promoted?’ Chauhan acknowledged this and said that lobbying happens everywhere, be it award functions, music, films or reality shows.
“It’s something you can’t avoid. You do your job, and if you want to get involved, do it to make things work,” Sunidhi said, explaining that it doesn’t make her a bad artiste if things don’t work out.
