The popular legal drama series, Suits, came to an end in 2019 with the airing of the last episode of its season 9. The legal drama television series created by Aaron Korsh became a fan favourite since its initial release for its engaging portrayal of courtroom drama. Here’s all you need to know about the show’s finale as we take a look at the events of the end of season 9.
What happened in Suits Season 9?
The final season of the show saw Harvey, Donna, Louis, Alex Williams and Samantha Wheeler doing their best to keep their law firm afloat. Apart from the legal drama, Suits Season 9 also gave fans the much-needed reunion between Harvey and Donna in its very first episode, titled, Everything’s Changed.
But this romantic union is cut short when Louis tells Donna about Robert Zane’s sacrifice to protect Harvey. Donna does not want to make her new relationship with Harvey public because she lets Louis believe she is working on a case with Harvey all night.
Eventually, Harvey, Alex, Louis, and Samantha manage to convince Faye to allow personal relationships at work, when Faye gains the power to oversee the firm and annoys everyone with her new position. She also pressures Donna to become her secretary as she slyly takes Louis’ place as managing partner.
Donna and Harvey find themselves struggling to keep their relationship going and find it hard to talk about anything other than work. Donna’s father, on the other hand, does not approve of her new relationship. Donna eventually helps Harvey make peace with his mother before she dies of a heart attack.
The last season of the show also saw the return of Mike, who said goodbye to the New York law firm with Rachel in 2017 as they moved to Seattle. Mike’s return was not a happy reunion as he goes up against Harvey in a case of unethical working conditions. Since Mike is well aware of Harvey’s tricks, he proposes a compromise.
However, Samantha becomes involved in the case and manages to get herself the win by fabricating evidence. This results in Samantha being promptly fired by Faye. Mike was also present when Harvey lost his mother, giving them a chance to spend some time together.
How did the case end?
Samantha’s dismissal from the firm was a turning point for the series finale. Harvey tries to contact Faye’s ex-husband George, in order to dig up some dirt against Faye and remove her from the position of managing partner. Harvey is surprised that George is not fired, as Faye prevents this from happening for the sake of her daughter. All this touches Harvey’s heart and he decides to put his plans against Faye on hold for the time being.
Sean Cahill is framed by Andrew Malick in a plot to get Mike out of prison early, as Mike’s fake law degree continues to cause problems until the end of the series. Harvey convinces Sean to take the case and eventually wins the case, putting Malick behind bars.
Meanwhile, Mike and Samantha join hands to take down Faye. Samantha drags Faye to court for wrongful termination, where Mike represents her. However, Faye makes her own move and recruits Harvey and Louis to fight her case, but she will leave the firm alone if they help her win.
The final courtroom battle turns out to be one of a kind with tense courtroom sessions. Faye is humiliated by Harvey in front of the entire court as Katrina secretly gives Mike information against Faye, which he later uses in court. Katrina confesses to Faye in hopes of saving the firm, but Faye fires her as well.
The tension is at its peak in the last episode of season 9, One Last Con, when Harvey along with Mike and Samantha stage a fake show in front of Faye and force her to sign documents where she admits her alleged wrongdoings. Finally, Harvey and Faye are alone in the room, where Faye agrees to leave the firm alone.
The series ends with a happy ending. Louis and Sheila get married and give birth to their child shortly after. Harvey and Donna get engaged and eventually marry. Harvey then reveals his deal with Faye and decides to leave the New York firm, and moves forward with his plans to join Mike and Rachel in Seattle. Katrina and Samantha are once again hired at the firm and they decide to rename it Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett.
The series ends in its full circle moment when Mike pretends to interview Harvey to assess his abilities to add value to his Seattle law firm. Thus after facing its fair share of hurdles over 9 seasons, the show finally ended with a happy ending that brought a smile to the faces of the viewers.
