‘Stree 2’ director opens up about censor board’s request to change joke on Neha Kakkar
‘Stree 2’ director Amar Kaushik spoke about the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) request to change a joke on Neha Kakkar in the film. The film also stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.

There’s a moment in the second half of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 when a character jokes about Neha Kakkar. However, instead of revealing the singer’s name, the character changes it to ‘Sneha Kakkar’. This was done on the request of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik spoke about the same.
When asked if the name change hampered the story of the film, Kaushik said Bollywood Hungama“Not really. CBFC members pointed out that This way Jokes it could feel worse than (May feel bad about that). We felt he had a valid point and so we didn’t ask him for permission to continue the conversation. Anyway, Logon to Society I have come (People understood it anyway).”
He further added, “When you write comedy, you make jokes like these. Like when you are sitting with friends, you make comments like these. That’s where the fun lies. Writer Niren Bhatt and I had intended to follow the way people find humour in their lives. We don’t make jokes. We hate the word ‘gag’! When someone says ‘Let’s put on a gig’ (Let’s include a joke too), I am like ‘I don’t want a gag‘ (I don’t need a gag). A gag is like vomiting to me!”
Amar Kaushik also said, “The CBFC members we met this time were intelligent and understanding. They listened to us. We could have taken several cuts. They told us, ‘Yes, there is a problem with this dialogue, but if we cut it, it will affect the narrative and we know you added it for that reason. So, we won’t censor it’. I was surprised. We were prepared that a lot of dialogues would be cut.”
