Silambarson TR and director Wetrimaran made headlines recently as they were first reported to join hands. While the rumors aired that the film could be stopped, it seems that the actor and director will probably continue their shooting in September 2025.
Str49: STR and Vetrimaran’s film to go to the floor from September?
According to a report by DT Next, Silambarson TR is set to continue shooting Str49 from mid -September 2025. While many rumors of the film have been dropped due to financial obstacles, producers are expected to release a promo soon.
According to this report, the official announcement will be released by mid -August 2025. In addition, the promo is expected to hit the big screen before making its way for YouTube, possibly with Rajinikanth starrer coera. However, a confirmation is pending.
Is the STR49 bow starrer promise Chennai’s sequel?
Earlier, there was speculation that the STR49 bow starrer promise would be Chennai’s sequel. However, director Vartitraran dismissed the reports.
Saying that Vada is with a copyright bow to Chennai, the director confirmed that Simbu Flicks would be within the same universe.
Asuran Helmer said, “Str49 is set in the world of Vadachanai, but this Vada is not Chennai 2. Dhanush Vada is the copyright holder of Chennai film. I am making a film with Silmbanson TR in Vada Chennai world.

Silambarson TR, aka Straw, was last seen in Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. The gangster actioner had a story of an old -aged crime Prabhu Rangaraya Sathivale, who is cheated by his adopted son, taking him to a tamasic route of destruction and redemption.
In the lead roles with Haasan and Simbu, the film featured Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Jujo George, Nasar, Ali Fazal and many more in many lead roles. The film was released with negative reviews on release and struggled to achieve success at the box office.
The thug life is currently available for streaming on OTT platform Netflix.
