In short

  • Starlink is shaken by a head from the Indian Ministry
  • To start rolling out in India, the company must get GMPCS license
  • Pricing is expected to be low as Rs 850

The Government of India has recently approved Elon Musk’s proposal to bring Starlink services to India. While the company may take some time to activate services in the country, this is definitely a significant turn for the Internet in India. Why? Starlink, which is already available in 100 countries, is a satellite broadband initiative from spacex, and is on a mission to revolutionize internet connectivity to increase access to higher speeds. Now that it is coming to India, the Internet will reach every nook and corner of the country.

With a node from the Ministry, Starlink has joined a special group of only three firms, with Onewab and Reliance Jio to secure an important step towards offering satellite-based telecom services into India. The company has already been released by the Department of Telecommunications (LOI) by the Department of Telecommunications, which serves as the initial cow-world from the authorities.

However, before it could begin rolling its satellite internet infrastructure across the country, Starlink will still have to get all the important global mobile personal communication by the satellite (GMPCS) license. This permit is necessary to deploy and operate its satellite connectivity system within the Indian region. So, now the question is when will Starlinks be launched in India?

Starlink launch in India?

While the exact date of roll out is not yet official, we have enough information to believe. Before we decrease this, let’s circle what we know till now. Starlink is awaiting regulatory approval to start commercial operations in India from 2022. However, this process is conducted by various factors – including concerns related to national security, according to a report by Reuters.

On 7 May, after receiving the letter of intentions from the Department of Telecommunications, he took a big step towards starting its services in India. Now, with an important regulatory license being secured, Elon Musk’s satellite internet enterprise is ready to kick operating on Indian soil.

Starlink has not created any secret of its curiosity to start. While a fourth contender, Amazon’s Kuper, is still waiting for the required approval to launch its satellite internet services in India, reports that once Starlink submitted its application for the trial spectrum, it is likely to be given within 15 to 20 days.

Earlier this year, the company entered the unexpected partnership with Reliance Jio, two of India’s biggest telecom players, led by Mukesh Ambani and Bharti Airtel, to support its local rollout.

Starlink India Pricing

According to a media report published last month, Starlink is expected to roll out schemes starting from only $ 10 per month, which shows this among the most budget -friendly satellite internet offerings worldwide. This pricing strategy aligns well with the Indian market, where strength and high performance are often important to the consumer.

These competitive price packages, which can also offer unlimited data, are likely to accelerate starlink growth across the country. The company is allegedly aiming to attract 10 million users as it sets its presence in India.

How does Starlink work?

Starlink aims to provide high-speed internet, even in places where there is no network. But how does it do? Instead of relying on a traditional ground-based infrastructure such as fiber or cables, Starlink uses a huge constellation of low Earth’s orbital satellites to give rapid and stable internet, especially in areas where traditional services are patch, slow or completely unavailable.

By transmitting direct data between satellites and ground stations, it effectively bypasses several borders, plating traditional broadband networks, offering a lifeline for rural and remote communities worldwide.
