Starlink is getting closer to starting its satellite internet service in India, and now there is more clarity on what users can expect in terms of pricing, speed and availability. According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI)Starlink will offer high-speed internet at a monthly cost of around Rs 3,000. However, it will not be widely available to start service. It would initially have dominated 2 million users across the country. The rollout is being deployed as a connectivity solution for remote and rural areas, where traditional broadband networks are either poor or non-existent. In India, the internet speed is expected to be in the range of 220 Mbps from 25 Mbps.
Update was confirmed Minister of State for Telecom, Pemmani Chandra SekharWho said that Starlink has been given a green light to operate in India. The network will use low-Earth class (Leo) satellites to distribute broadband services and is expected to play a supplementary role instead of competing directly with existing telecom operators such as Jio, Airtel, or BSNL-in particular in urban and semi-urban areas, there are expected to play a complemental role-especially in urban and semi-urban areas.
While Starlink has not officially announced its India launch date, reports suggest that the service may be live within the next few months, possibly by the end of 2025. Pre-orders may open soon, users need to pay an upfront amount to book their connections. The monthly membership fee based on location and use is expected to fall between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200, and the cost of the hardware kit can be around Rs 33,000, although the final pricing is still waiting.
The Starlink Hardware required for connection – including a dish and router – will allegedly be distributed in partnership with Indian telecom giants such as Airtel and Jio. These companies have signed a infrastructure-share agreement with Spacex to help Indian users bring service.
Further, Starlink is also working on a major technology upgradation that can significantly increase the pace of the Internet. According to several reports on the Internet, the next generation of Starlink satellites starting in 2026, designed to give more than 1,000 GBPS capacity per satellite. These upgrade can eventually push the download speed 10 times faster than current levels, making the service even more useful in low-connectivity fields.
For now, place the place and hardware with a user cap on the high side, the starlink is unlikely to disrupt the mainstream internet providers. But in rural India, where options are limited, it can offer an important lifeline. Stay for Today Tech for India for all the latest news around Starlink.
