Starlink is finally getting closer to launching in India, and just in time, the satellite internet provider is also preparing a major upgradation. The front wave of Starlink Network is expected to move 10 times faster than the current offering, thanks to a new generation of satellites starting in 2026. While this jump in speed is not officially branded as “Starlink 3.0” by SpaceX, it is important to perform performance and capacity, and it can create all differences in places like rural India, where it is always to go to the Internet.

Starlink has already rolled out services in more than 100 countries and is currently serving over 6 million customers worldwide. Its expansion in India has been working for some time, and now with regulator approval from working out of in-space and spectrum clearance, the service is eventually expected to be live by the end of 2025 or by the end of 2026. The Starlink has been authorized to operate its Gen 1 satellite network in Indian territory by 2030, and to deliver the Koo band directly. In simple terms, this means that Starlink now has the official permission to use specific satellite signs to send and receive internet data from its users and its ground stations.

At the launch, Starlink has planned to provide speed ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps to 220 Mbps in India, with a data capacity of about 600 to 700 GBPS in the initial stage. This may look modest than fiber, but for areas without any appropriate internet infrastructure, it can be a lifeline. What is more promising what is coming next. The next generation of satellites set for launching next year, allegedly 1,000 GBPS per satellite (or 1 TBPS) downlink capacity and more than 200 GBPS of uplink – 10 times and 24 times respectively, offers current satellites.

This major upgrade will allow each new starlink launch to be injected as 60 TBPS capacity in the network, thanks to the progress in hardware, onboard computers, beamforming, and low height operations for lower delays. This means that fast, more stable internet for all, whether you are in the middle of a city or deep in a remote village.

For pricing, nothing has been confirmed yet for India, but depending on global pricing, the standard starlink kit can be around Rs 33,000, with monthly plans to Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,200. Starlink is also working with Indian telecom giants such as Airtel and Jio to allegedly reach out access and access.
