Malayalam lyricist Manekombu Gopalakrishnan, who worked in various films over the years, died on 17 March 2025. As the death of the famous lyricist took the industry from the storm, director SS Rajamouli expressed his condolences through an official post.

Taking his X (East Twitter) handle, the filmmaker said, “The Sad to the Legend Malayalam writer Manekombu Gopalakrishnan sir. His timeless songs, poetry and dialogues have left a permanent impact. He is grateful to cooperate with him on the Malayalam versions of Ega, Bahubali and RRR. Om Shanti is grateful.”

Malayalam lyricist and screenwriter Manekombu Gopalakrishnan died on Monday after a heart attack. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kochi.

Over the years, man has performed his lyrical skills in various Malayalam films, including Laksharchan Kandu, Ilam Manjin Kulirumayoru Kuil, Kalidasante Kavybhavana, and many more. It is said that famous artists gave more than 700 songs in more than 200 films.

Apart from being a lyricist, Manekombu Gopalakrishnan was also a poet, screenwriter and translator. In his years working in cinema, the man translated several films from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Bengali.

His cooperation with director SS Rajamouli includes writing for Malayalam versions of films like Ega (ECA), Bahubali 1 and 2, and RRR.

Coming on the work front of director SS Rajamouli, the directors are currently included in the shoot for their next enterprise, titled SSMB29. The upcoming Magnum Ops Venture starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role is considered a jungle adventure venture based on the central character on Lord Hanuman with Hindu mythology.

The upcoming film is expected to be made on a budget of Rs 900 – 1000 crore and it is ready for Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a major role. Apart from Mahesh and Priyanka, the film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in an important role.
