The English version of the famous South Korean thriller show Squid Game is set to debut. While previously, only murmurs were heard about its production and a possible crossover with the original version, it looks like the idea has been confirmed and will take off in the coming year. According to a report from Collider, the project will debut in the coming year and will involve renowned director David Fincher alongside series original creator Hwang Dong Hyuk.

Squid Game: America will break a leg next year, here’s all we know

Citing details on the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA) website, filming of Squid Game: America will begin on February 26, 2026. Among possible locations, Los Angeles and California have been named as the largest locations for filming. Director David Fincher will helm the project as lead director, while original creator Hwang Dong Hyuk and Pertsman Studio CEO Kim Ji Yeon will join him as producers.

Squid Game: US has not confirmed specifics of the project; However, it has been stated that it will be set in the same universe as the original Squid game. An official spin-off, it will not remake the story but will run parallel to its Korean counterpart. It will demonstrate cultural changes and the implementation of the American perspective on sports. Previously, actress Cate Blanchett made a cameo in Squid Game Season 3 right after the end of the games, hinting at taking over the role originally played by salesman Gong Yoo. She will also reportedly be involved in the western version.

Although there has been no confirmation from the director or producer about the adaptation, the description on the website seems to be more or less the same. It was also reported that, in line with the filming schedule, the project’s release could be around 2028, in time for Christmas, like the previous two seasons of Squid Game. No further seasons are planned for the Korean version yet.
