Soha Ali Khan recently revealed that her mother, famous actress Sharmila Tagore, had strongly advised to marry an actor before tying a knot with actor Kunal Kemu. Soha and Kunal were in a relationship for nine years before getting married.
Last week, during his appearance at Quizitok Podcast, Soha Ali Khan, who celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with Kunal on January 25, shared a rare glimpse in his family life and advised him to his mother. Sharmila was worried about the complexities of marrying someone from the same industry.
Despite his marriage to famous cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, he believed that the great ego and mood of the actors could make married life difficult. Sharmila’s advice for Soha was simple: “Do whatever you want, but never marry an actor,” Soha remembered.
Soha explained on her mother’s concerns, emphasizing that actors experience emotional ups and downs, often get caught in their successes or failures. This mood, he explained, may be challenging for his colleagues after marriage. Sharmila warned that being in a relationship with someone by the same profession can cause unnecessary stress in the life of a couple.
Despite her mother’s concerns, Soha went ahead and married Goa Gone actor Kunal Kamu in 2015. The couple now share a happy and stable marriage and are the parents of a young daughter, Inaya.
Soha also reflected on her parents unlike personalities and how she shaped her upbringing. He shared that his father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, always calm and composed – would ever raise his voice or lose his temper. Soha remembered her as being “cool as cucumber”, and she believes that she has inherited the same peaceful nature.
On the other hand, he described his mother Sharmila Tagore as more sensitive and emotional. She mentioned that her mother could be strict many times and was not afraid to express her feelings. While Soha feels that, in the context of nature, she takes after her father, she admitted that her husband, Kunal has a unique ability to push her button, sometimes leading to mood at home.
