2024 has definitely been a special one for Gwen Stefani! The Hollaback Girl hitmaker spoke to UK magazine Hello! About his band No Doubt reuniting and performing at this year’s Coachella for the first time in nearly a decade.
“It was overwhelming to perform at Coachella and feel that love for us after so much time,” he told the outlet. The family supporting backstage “means a lot to me.”
The singer felt as if they had “never been apart” over the years and called herself “incredibly lucky” to have been a part of something that is so timeless in the music industry. The band consisted of Tom Dumont on guitar, Tony Kanal on bass, and Adrian Young on drums, who headlined the annual California Music Festival in April.
The Rich Girl singer wore an outfit inspired by ’90s fashion, which consisted of ripped-up black tights, cutoff denim shorts and a white tank top. Their set also featured a surprise appearance from Olivia Rodrigo, who joined Stefani for a performance of the band’s hit song Bathwater.
In 2016, during an interview with Rolling Stone, Stefani said that a reunion for the band was unlikely because everyone was “separated about what kind of music we want to make.” The Voice coach admitted that she was exhausted and burnt out during the recording of her 2012 album Push & Shove. “And I had a lot of guilt: ‘I have to do this.’ This is not the right setting to make music,” he said at the time.
No Doubt was formed in 1986 and disbanded in 2012 after six record albums under their label during their musical journey. Luckily for fans, Stefani’s statement did not turn into fact and a No Doubt reunion happened.
Speaking to People magazine in January, the Don’t Speak singer revealed that everything about their Coachella reunion was organic. “It happened so fast and it’s my favorite thing,” he said at the time. Everyone is very excited,” she added.
