The new Snapdragon 6 General 4 comes as a major upgradation on its predecessor and departure from previous designs in the series. It improves performance, efficiency, gaming, AI, camera and all major areas of audio.
The General 4 Chip will be the first in the series of tsmc on the 4Nm node of TSMC. The previous generations have used 4Nm node from Samsung and 6nm one from TSMC.
This generation is ARMV9-based CPU core-Cortex-A720 (2.3GHz) as prime core, three and A720 (2.2GHz) as large core and four cortex-a520 (1.8GHz) 6- The first is in the series. Small core. The previous generations used the Armv8 design (Cortex-A78/A55).
Performance uplift compared to General 3 chips is interesting-despite generational upgrade in-CPU design, CPU uplift is only 11% (Geekbench 5.2 is measured in single-thread).
The new Adreno brings more significant improvements with promoting 29% in GPU performance. Qualcomm is a mam on the details on the GPU, but it is a great boost. In addition, the new chip is 12% more efficient than its predecessor.
The Snapdragon 6 General 4 is the first in the family to support 4 INT4 – this will allow the model customized with more parameters to fit a limited amount of RAM. For example, Qualcomm is working on a text summary AI. The company mentioned that LLM running on the device would require a minimum memory, but it did not give an accurate number.
The chipset supports up to up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM (up to 3,200mHz), LPDDR4X (2,133MHz) is also an option for cheap designs. For storage, the chip supports UFS 3.1. Wired connectivity includes USB-C 3.1 that can run external performance up to 4K @ 60Hz, 10-bit color and HDR10+ are also supported.
For the device, 6 General 4 chip drives can drive up to 1080p+ resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rates. Mobile GPUs are taking a page from their desktop counterparts and this adreno Snapdragon game super resolution (apaskling for gaming up to 4K) and Adreno Frame Motion Engine (Frame-Jen that doubles the frame rate keeping power consumption low) Supports

For the camera, the chip features triple 12-bit ISPS with support for the sensor up to 200MP. It can record videos up to 4K HDR, but the frame rate limit on that resolution is still 30fps. HDR10 and HLG format are supported for video, 10-bit heif for photos. H.265 and VP9 are hardware acceleration for playback (but no AV1).
The connectivity section is very familiar. The 5G modem supports the downlink speed up to the sub-6GHz (4×4 mimo) and mmwave (2×2 mimo) and 2.9GBPS. Wi-Fi 6E (802.11Ax) is supported (including 6GHz band), as Bluetooth 5.4 with APTX adaptive. The GPS receiver supports triple frequency positioning (L1/L5/L2).
Realme, Oppo and Honor Snapdragon will be among the first smartphone manufacturers to launch equipment based on 6 Gen 4. There is no accurate time, we will hear more “in the coming months”. We heard that India would be one of the first markets to see the new chipset. Obviously, device manufacturers are targeting the stunning low price limit of $ 100- $ 150.
