Snapchat CEO reveals the secret to dealing with stress, here’s what he does
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has revealed his secret to dealing with stress. Instead of taking stressful situations as threats, he seems to be adopting a completely different approach.

We all face stress, which may be due to work pressure or something in our personal life. Most of us think of stress as something negative, something we are forced to manage. But Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has a completely different way of dealing with stress.
During his appearance on the Grit podcast, Spiegel talked about his personal methods of dealing with stress. The CEO of Snap Inc. has led his company for more than a decade, and has gone through some tough times, including rejecting an acquisition offer from Facebook (now Meta) in 2013.
What is the secret to dealing with stress?
Spiegel believed that the secret to dealing with stress starts with our attitude. We need to see this as something positive rather than a threat. “It (stress) is a gift, it’s a learning opportunity, it’s an opportunity for growth,” he said. He explained that this mindset is central to his ability to deal with the demands of being a CEO.
The Snapchat chief explained that his approach is backed by research. According to Spiegel, experiencing stress “can have a huge impact on your ability to manage it.” This view is echoed in the work of Stanford researcher Kelly McGonigal, particularly in her 2015 book “The Upside of Stress,” which explores how changing perceptions of stress can alter its effects.
But positive attitude is just one factor
However, simply changing your attitude towards stress will not be enough. You need to try harder to really get better at dealing with this. Evan Spiegel revealed that he has various practical routines that help him deal with stress. “I’ve tried to find my own ways, whether it’s exercising or going to the sauna or just taking time to meditate,” she said.
The Snapchat chief emphasizes that this gives him a chance to cope with stress instead of taking it out on people close to him or his team. He added, “I want to handle that stress, okay? I don’t want to burden the people I care about, whether it’s our team or family or my wife.”
Snapchat chief is now used to dealing with stress
After leading the company for more than a decade, Evan Spiegel says he’s getting better at managing stress, so much so that even chaotic moments begin to seem routine. “Once you get into the rhythm of dealing with stressful events all the time, it becomes very normal, and stress is about a reaction to something abnormal,” Spiegel said.
