Playback singer Suchitra has publicly apologised for calling her ex-husband and actor-stand-up comedian Karthik Kumar gay. She shared a video on her YouTube channel, Suchi’s Space, stating that she was posting the video after receiving persistent calls from the Chennai Pattinampakkam police. She also said that she will send an apology to Karthik Kumar via email.

On August 14, Suchitra shared a video and said that she needed to cooperate with the police who wanted to take over her YouTube channel.”Karthik Kumar filed a complaint “I complained to the Pattinampakkam police station that I called them gay in interviews. They said I should apologise publicly and also through email,” he said.

The singer also claimed that she had been receiving calls from the police for the past few weeks. “Now it has reached the level of threats. The police officer Vijayalakshmi said that she was constantly questioning me about the apology and that I should go to jail for not apologising. I did not want to disturb her mental peace and hence I am publishing my public apology,” she commented.

Suchitra said that she was accused of ruining Karthik Kumar’s career by calling him gay. She said, “I am sorry that I called you gay. I don’t want to ruin his career. In fact, Karthik Kumar is a wonderful person. I hope you get more films because of this apology.”

The singer then said, “He is criticised a lot regarding his career. If these comments do not affect his career, then how will my comments affect his career? I feel Karthik Kumar is giving me too much importance. I think he should focus on his life and his second wife.”

Suchitra also said that she will apologise via email. The singer recalled the time when Karthik Kumar once called her a retard. Suchitra also said that she will continue to be a critic of his films.

In May 2024, Suchitra claimed in an interview to two YouTube channels that Karthik Kumar is gay. She accused many people including Karthik, Dhanush, Trisha, Vijay, Kamal Haasan, Andrea Jeremiah and Aishwarya Rajinikanth. She also said that ‘List Leaks‘ was a prank done on her by Karthik Kumar, Dhanush and others. For the uninitiated, in 2017, unsolicited pictures and videos of the actors were released on Suchitra’s ex page, popularly called ‘Suchi Leaks’.

Following the explosive interviews, Karthik Kumar sent a legal notice to Suchitra demanding her to stop talking about him and withdraw her statements.

Legal notices were sent to YouTube channels asking them to remove the videos.

Karthik Kumar and Suchitra got divorced in 2018.
