Actor Simi Gerewal is being criticized for his position on X about Ravana. The post has triggered a wave of reactions, raising concerns about mythological characters and illustrations of moral messages.

Veteran actor and television personality Simi Gerewal is facing online criticism after his recent post on X about Ravana. His comment, which is a reflection during the festival of Dussehra, quickly attracted wide attention and backlash.
Garewal’s post included a message with a picture of the character to Ravana, in which he questioned Ravana’s traditional approach as evil. He wrote, “Dear Ravana … every year, on this day, we celebrate the victory of good over evil. Looks great).
“Your request for marriage was filled with humility .. And even when you did not throw acid even when you were not rejected. Even when Lord Ram killed you .. You were enough intelligent to apologize. And .. I believe that you were more than half of our Parliament. I believe that you have no difficult feelings to burn … just that it is anything.

The post became increasingly viral, portraying strong reactions and criticism. Among the first people to respond was the activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, who directly addressed Garewal. Bhardwaj wrote, “Dear Simi Garewal, the moment he kidnaps you, all this romanticism will evaporate and you will sit in the police station and sit in an attempt to rape and slam, if they say that ‘Bas is’ Bas Apharan Hi.
Other users on X questioned the characterization of Ravana’s actions and the suitability of Garewal’s comments. An X user asked, “Ever since someone is kidnapping someone’s wife, it is a good and acceptable thing to ask them politely to marry every day?”

Another user highlighted the mythical contexts, explaining Ravana’s conduct. The user said, “@simi_garewal is deeply your ignorance. Do you know why Ravana did not make physical progress to Sita Mata. She was cursed weekly to Kubera’s daughter, (her stepmother niece) who she raped her cruelty. She says that ‘If Ravana would have been touched against another woman, then her head would be divided into another piece.
Further comments referred to the ancient texts by describing other alleged works by Ravana. An internet user wrote, “Ravana’s crimes were not limited to Vedavati, Rambha, or Madanamanjari. The texts describe a pattern – kidnapping, attacks in states, attacks in states, sage genealogies, even deities. A collective curse he rises from wounds. UnrighteousBut you will not know it (SIC). ,
Additional voices warned Ravana’s works of risks in glorifying or excuses. One user commented, “Mahimamandan can send a misleading message to Ravana by equaling talent, learning, or equal to moral excellence, which can reduce the importance of moral conduct in society. Ravana’s life acts as a story of a precaution: despite standing with his own family and empire, his positive symptoms are considered dangerous.”
The post has ignited a debate on social media about mythological interpretations, historical context and responsibility of public data while discussing sensitive topics.
