‘Shrek 5’ officially announced, original actors will play their roles again
DreamWorks Animation has announced that ‘Shrek 5’ will be released in July 2026, with the original cast returning. The announcement was made at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

After years of waiting, DreamWorks Animation has finally revealed the release date of the much-awaited fifth installment of the Shrek franchise. ‘Shrek 5’ will officially hit theaters in July, 2026. The original cast of the film will return in the sequel and reprise their roles.
The news was announced today, July 10, at the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, where DreamWorks Animation showed a sneak peek at the upcoming film. Although details about the plot are still scarce, sources close to the production have indicated that ‘Shrek 5’ will explore new territories, both literally and figuratively, for our favorite swamp-dwelling hero.
At the CinemaCon convention, Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri said, “We’re thrilled to bring the lovable, grumpy monster and his mismatched friends back to the big screen.”
Chris further added, “Shrek 5 promises to be an exciting ride, filled with humour, heart and lots of surprises. We can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”
The original ‘Shrek’ film, released in 2001, revolutionized the animation industry and spawned a successful franchise with three sequels as well as numerous spin-offs and merchandise. The series has grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide and has become a cultural phenomenon.
